The unusually mild weather over Christmas was much welcomed on St. Stephen’s day as the club held it’s annual cup raceday which was kindly sponsored by John O’Connor Welding Supplies. The excesses of Christmas day proved too much for some which resulted in a quieter pit area. This however didn’t take from the excitement and entertainment throughout the day. The cup winner in each class was to be decided over the usual 3 rounds of racing , with the accumulation of points won deciding the winner.
Class 1 was hotly contested with Adam Browne holding his nerve to eventually come out on top just ahead of Declan McGrath-2nd-and Paddy Sullivan -3rd . Stephen Healy and Eddie Baldwin exchanged 1st and 2nd in the first 2 races in class 2 with Stephen securing the cup in the final race with a win . Eddie had to settle for 2nd and Pat Ryan secured 3rd place. Michael Baldwin took home the class3 cup with Mick Boland and Alan Darcy retaining the class 4 and 5 cups they had won 12 months earlier. Catherine Walsh ended the year well by taking the ladies cup.
Eddie McGrath had a faultless day in the 1B class securing maximum points and grabbing the cup. Johnny Kenneally was 2nd with Luke O’Donovan 3rd. Ted McGrath matched his father’s day with maximum points in production juniors with Darragh Walsh 2nd and Jack Browne 3rd. It was power to the Power’s in the rookie class as Martin won the cup with his brother Callum 2nd and cousin Liam Og 3rd.
The club wish to thank everyone who helped to make it another successful day on track and to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year.
The AGM will be held on Sunday 5th Jan. @3pm in Lawlors Hotel Dungarvan and all members, new and old, are asked to attend as we prepare for the 2020 season.
