All Set For Round 4

May 2019 03

Anthony

It seems that engines have only cooled down from round 3 of the 2019 championship but its time to load up once again this weekend for another day of exciting racing kindly sponsored by Freeman Motors. It is still early in the season but its now time to have the problems and tweaking sorted as the battle for class honours heats up. In class 1 Ronan Coughlan has opened a small gap on the points table with Darragh O'Shea , Jack Hickey and Shane Hickey having a close battle behind him. Ronan's dad, Michael is the man to beat in class2 due to his consistency on previous racedays with Eddie Baldwin leading the chasing pack.

Class3 is very close with Alan Darcy, Michael Baldwin and Paul Fitzgerald all building a good collection of points but each having missed a round of racing already which could be a telling factor towards the end of the season. Peader Wall is having a good season so far in Class4 and just leads a fierce battle between him, Alan Houlihan and Mick Boland with Raymond D'Arcy also starting to come into contention after some great driving last time out in the well prepared Fiesta spaceframe.

Mr.consistent in class5 is Padraig Smiddy, but no doubt Andy O'Brien won't let him have it all his own way as the season progresses. Martin Fitzgerald is going well in class6 in his newly acquired Tigra with the chasing pack needing to get more regular outings. Luke O'Donovan holds a small lead in the 1B class followed by Liam Fitzgerald with Willie Heney closing the gap after missing out on round 1. Brian Weston is showing his experience in the stocks getting the better of 'new kid on the block' Evin Harding who has stepped up from the junior classes this season.

It's great to see the numbers in the ladies class increasing this season with 12 drivers now on the points table. Once again , at this early stage, it is consistency of attending all 3 previous rounds that is showing on the points table with Orla O'Sullivan leading the way ahead of Catherine Walsh with the Egan girls having their usual battle just behind that.

In the rookie class we have had 15 drivers taking their positions on the starting grid in 2 group. Leading the table at the moment is Martin Power with Conor Fitzgerald also well going well. High numbers in the production juniors has also seen then split into 2 groups which has led to a great battle at the top of the points table. Ted Mcgrath is currently top with Ben Kenneally and Aidan Heney is close attendance.

With the added attraction of a 20 lap race at the end of the 3 rounds of racing with the pepetual Ian O'Leary cup up for grabs, there will be plenty of entertainment throughout the day, with racing starting at 12 noon.
